Yes everyone must know how to swim to go on a SUP or kayak. Everyone is required to have a US Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with them at all times which must be worn by those 12 and under. Stand up paddleboards themselves are huge flotation devices and we require you to be leashed to your board so it can never go far away. Getting back on your board is easy to learn and do and you may even find that falling off the board into the water is fun.
Will we have instructions before going out on the water?
You begin with a short land-based training session by PaddleFit certified instructors. Within one hour, you can become very comfortable in the water and on your board.
I’m not in great shape. Can I still do it? Will I be able to get back on if I fall in?
Just about anyone can learn to SUP or kayak. Part of the draw is fitness and getting in better shape. We can’t guarantee that you won’t be tired and a bit sore because in fact that’s part of the point! 99% of first timers are standing on a SUP within 30 minutes and have little to no difficulty getting back on the board if they fall in. Remember, our certified instructors will assist you prior to going out on your own.
Will I get wet?
Sure if you want to and maybe not if you don’t. We will teach you the skills you need to stay on your board so you can reach ● relax ● repeat ™ and enjoy your SUP or kayak.
What should I bring?
Swimsuit or shorts and/or a shirt that are quick drying (no cotton), sunscreen, hat or visor are recommended. There is a place on the SUP and kayak to secure a small bag. Generally, SUP is done barefoot, but water shoes are welcome.
Do you provide all the equipment?
All equipment is provided. The kayaks and stand up paddleboards, paddles, PFDs and leashes that we use are of the highest quality and are most conducive to safety and enjoyment.
